AKA BILOU
French Artist
Bilou is a French artist living in Asia since more than 30 years. He is currently based in Bangkok (Thailand), but has exposed his work throughout Asia in major cities such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Beijing, and Vientiane. Bilou’s art is generous and seductive, with either large areas of vibrant colors or in a graphic black and white. They bring a fantastic decorative and artistic touch in any space through their powerful expressivity.
WHY ZEBRAS
The natural graphic design of the zebras inspired Bilou’s work for many years as allegories of the human being. Like humans, zebras cannot be tamed. The colors and stripes represent the different characters and personalities of the individuals.
The zebra as an elephant sculpture is an allegory of the dissimulation where people pretend to be someone else in their social representation and disguise themselves as somebody they are not. But a wise man will recognize the stripes and therefore the real nature of their personality
The elephant is on his trunk to show the fragility of this attitude. Artworks are hand-painted and made out of strong structure of resin, reinforced with fiberglass. Dozen layers of high gloss anti-UV marine lacquer not only protects the paint, but mostly bring out the color’s vibrance, and play with the light’s reflection. Both the varnish and the base are fundamental parts of the work. Each limited edition piece is signed and numbered by the artist, all with certificate of authenticity. There are 8 original pieces and 4 artist’s proof for each design.
